The goal of this field trip is to educate the youth with one statement: "Lupa Ay Buhay" which means "Land is Life." We want to educate the youth of our ancestral roots by taking them to Hood River to show them techniques of farming and the produce that we grow collectively. Because of our roots, we think it's necessary that they carry one attitude with them and that is to always tend the land.

As many contributions Filipinos brought to this world, we feel it's necessary to highlight the smaller things we've contributed. The yo-yo is integral to our roots as Filipino-Americans because Pedro Flores created the yo-yo you will see today. As small as this toy is, it's impact on the world keeps growing. I wanted the youth to know that no matter what their contribution is in this world, it will not go unnoticed.

Regardless if you know our mother tongue, our common language in this world is food! For this field trip, we took the youth program to a local Filipino-American establishment Baon-Kainan to learn how to cook Chicken Adobo! It's important to the youth to learn these skills for the embodiment of their growth!

We wanted to practice "Kalasugan" or in English "good health" with our students by teaching them how to skateboard. Skateboarding has become rampantly popular within the world of sports and the students wanted to try something new!

Thanks to Shop Halo Halo, for Filipino-American history month we wanted to highlight some heroes within our diaspora. What better way to learn about these figures than through the creative process? The students picked up a historical figure and started painting them to get a better understanding of who these people were.
